 Our 6 - 9 year old classes are designed to enable students to focus on a specific subject matter while exploring different mediums. We will teach students basic handling techniques for each material. Students will use newly acquired skills to express their own artistic ideas.

 

Fall  2018 Art Classes for 6 - 9 year olds

Parent/Child Wheel ThrowingAre you ready to get your hands dirty? Patience and a high tolerance for messy hands is a must for learning this fun way to create pottery. Students will learn the basic steps for creating bowls and cups on the pottery wheel. This class is for a parent and child. Thursdays, 11/29-12/20, 6:30 – 8:00 PM, $140

ONE-DAY WORKSHOPS for K-5th grades

Drawing with Todd Tevlin ~ Thursdays, 6:00 - 7:00 PM, $20 each or $75 for all five sessions

Pokemon Characters ~  11/8  (ages 6-11)

Spongebob Characters ~ 11/15 (ages 6-11)

Angry Birds Characters ~ 12/6 (ages 6-11)

Minecraft Characters ~ 12/13 (ages 7-11)

Star Wars Characters ~ 12/20 (ages 7-11)

 

Winter Wonderland ~ Celebrate the season as we create a winter landscape using a variety of materials! Saturday, 12/15, 9:00 – 10:30 AM, $25

Girl Scout Badge Workshops: Badges will be provided. (For an entire troop, please call to schedule a private workshop.)

  ~ Brownie Painting - Learn how to paint a landscape and how color choices can create a mood for the piece! 11/17, 12:30 – 2:00 PM, $25 CLASS IS FULL 

 

Winter/Spring 2019 Art Classes for 6-9 year olds

IrRESISTable Paintings  - Learn a variety of painting techniques that use resist methods - masking off areas using wax (crayons), tape, glue and much more! Thursdays, 2/21-4/4, 5:30 – 7:00 PM, $140 (no classes the week of 3/18-3/22)

Clay Creations -Students will learn the basics of creating works of art from clay using pinch pots, slabs and coils while creating both realistic and abstract pieces. Thursdays, 4/11-5/16, 5:30 – 7:00 PM, $145

One-Day Workshops

Arts and Heritage Workshops ~ Learn about a specific group of artists and the art making practices inherent to their culture. Students will create a piece of art inspired by the theme of the month. Register individually or all 5 together!  1st Saturday of each month, 10:00 – 11:30 AM, $25 each or $100 for all five!

January 5 ~ Indian artists

February 2 ~ African American artists

Todd Tevlin Comic Workshops:

Junior Kids Comic Workshop – (6-7 year olds) Do you want your child to be able to focus their creativity into something more productive than scribbling on furniture? If so, then this course is for you! This TWO WEEK class is taught by comic artist, Todd Tevlin, and will teach 6-7 year olds the basics of comic creation. Facial expressions, speech bubbles, character creation, one panel comics and finally their very own mini comic book! Mondays, 1/7 and 1/14, 6:00 – 7:00 PM, $40

Beginner Kids Comic Workshop (8-11 years old) ~ Does your child like to draw and tell stories or do you simply need a break? If so, then this class is for you! This TWO WEEK class is taught by comic artist, Todd Tevlin, and will teach the basics of cartooning and comic strips to 8-11 year olds, including character design, speech bubbles, panel layout, writing stories, and drawing a single and three panel comic of their very own. What is taught can easily transition into full comic book creation! Mondays, 1/7 – 1/14, 7:00 – 8:00 PM, $40

Character Design (8-11 years old) ~ This TWO WEEK class taught by comic artist, Todd Tevlin, focuses on just drawing characters. Whether they are cartoony or realistic is up to the child as the same techniques apply to both! A lot of drawing principles will be taught, including facial expressions and proportions, exaggerating expressions and body language, the 'how many heads high' scale, height/weight variations, different views (3/4, front, side, etc), working with color palettes, silhouette comparisons, K.I.S.S. drawings, and how to make characters unique from one another. Tuesdays, 1/8 – 1/15, 6:00 – 7:00 PM, $40

K-5th Grades

Creatures in Clay - Through the use of pinch pots, coils and slab building, create creatures, both from nature and students' imaginations. Saturday, 2/23, 10:00-11:30 AM, $30

Mom and Me Wheel Throwing- Spend some time together this Mother’s Day weekend getting creative! Learn how to use the potter’s wheel and create your own bowls. Saturday, 5/11, 10:00-11:30 AM, $40
